Bullsheet - April 2001

Vol. 01 No. 04 - April 2001

President's Message

Last month I had technical difficulty with my e-mail so you didn't hear from me. I had it all set to go I just couldn't send it. Oh well, what are you going to do.

Not a lot to report this month either. Let's see what I have.

Oh, if you missed the Cabin Fever Social Night, and some did, you missed a great night out. Our Social Director, Bob Brodeur left out nothing! Great food, great entertainment, and all that came were great company.

A radio controlled army tank and blimp supplied entertainment. Bob Brodeur flew the blimp in NEXT DAY AIR! Everyone had their turn on the sticks, even the ladies! Jim's tank was a hit and so was Bob's Blimp.

We were in our own private room, and the waitresses from the other part of the restaurant kept coming in to check out the fun we were having! It was pretty neat!

The ladies all received a Yankee candle just for their presence. Later in the evening, after dinner, we had a drawing for gift certificates.

The ladies were in a separate drawing from the members! Two of these ladies were lucky enough to be in both drawings! They were Denise & Shirley. Both of them were drawn for a certificate and Denise won twice! I had a Great Time, and you would have to if you had been there. Bob did a wonderful job in putting this all together.

BOB, We all THANK YOU!

It has been one heck of a winter and as you all know April is suppose to look like spring. Spring has been postponed for an extra few weeks.

I know you all are looking forward to the new flying season. The club officers and I have been talking about the spring mud season (coming soon). With the frost coming out of the ground and the melt taking place at the same time, we don't want to rush to the top of our flying site only to ruin our roadway on the way up, and possibly damage the top area as well!

If you go to the field and find a second lock on the gate, this means the field is CLOSED!

We don't want anyone to go on the site by mistake and tear it up and make a lot of unnecessary repair by trying to rush it by a week or two! So bear with us, until the second lock is removed. For now - THE FIELD IS CLOSED!!!

SHOW & TELL MEETING ------ Bring it in, even if it is not done there is a category for it!

They are BEST SCALE, SPORT, GLIDER, IN PROCESS, and OVERALL.

There will be voting on all the different classes, 1st and runner up - and don't forget Modeler of the Year! I hope to see a lot of models!

We have spoken with the owners of the Litchfield flying site. Currently they are stockpiling materials for the new Londonderry power plant, the site is no longer secured as rocks have been removed, and bulldozers have leveled areas for incoming materials. As of the April meeting, the Litchfield site is officially closed. We will not renew our insurance with the AMA for this site.

This site has served us well and I hate to see us lose it. The Charbonneau's were very generous in letting us use this site at no charge and we have thanked them with a beautiful fruit basket. It was nice having them as neighbors at Litchfield, and we will enjoy having them as neighbors at the new Hudson Site!

If you missed the last meeting we voted in a new BBQ grille for" Wagner Field"!

There is also talk of a JAM NIGHT like we use to have years ago, The Old Hudson Gang Days! This was a night that you knew a bunch of guys would gather, fly and swap stories and just have a good time! Rich Kelly is talking of starting this again, the night is not determined yet, although it used to be Wednesday which was, and still is, Trainer Night. We would jam (fly) in between training flights. The best part of this being on trainer night, this would almost guarantee someone to be there to help the trainees! Being a JAM night also is not meant to scare away trainees. Trainees can learn different things to do just by watching more experienced pilots and on occasion LEARN WHAT NOT TO DO!

It would be fun to bring some hotdogs or hamburgers up to the field on any night or afternoon and eat, fly and just plain have fun!

We will talk more on this at future meetings

April is our Annual "Show & Tell"

Time to get bragging rights on that winter project.

The April meeting will be the SNHRCC annual "Show and Tell".

Bring in your winter projects and share them with the members.

After the business meeting everyone will vote on the models in categories to include, Best in Show, Best Scale, Best Sport, Best Glider, and Best in Process.

Come a little early and setup meeting begins at 7:30.

The best part of this is that it means flying season is just around the corner.

-- Harry Peters Jr.

Short Hours - GREAT Pay!

We now have an awesome new field!

The SNHRCC needs your help by volunteering to take a turn at mowing the field.

The club has over 100 members, if only half mow once a season everyone would have to mow once every other year!

The club is very flexible, you can mow whenever you wish.

See Ken Ux, Field Marshall, at the next meeting or call Ken at 429-1518.

Don't be shy, we have a great mower and the pay is great.

GREAT!!!

-- Ken Ux (Mowing Coordinator)

SAFETY FIRST!

Fuel Storage -
It may sound a bit foolish, but sometimes we forget the simple things and get a little lazy.

Keep in mind how flammable our fuel is.

Keep it in a cool dry place with no wires or electrical outlets nearby.

Keep your flight box clean and free of fuel seepage.

The smallest spark will set it off.

Rule #1 - Use Common Sense!

-- Ken Ux (Safety Officer)

The May Meeting is the CUT - OFF Date!

You can still pay your 2001 dues but late fees are in effect.

It is important that you get them in before the May club meeting if you intend to remain in the club.

We have a waiting list of folks that want to join the club and all memberships unpaid after the May meeting will be given up to the new members.

Don't procrastinate too long. The clock is ticking . . . . tick . . . tick . . . tick

-- Kip Bean (Treasurer)

TOUCH & GO - Cabin Fever Social!

By Bob Johnson, Photos by John Hayes
Harry did a good job in recapping the social in his report. There were over 30 attendees at the event, the food was excellent and it was a fun night out.
Numerous door prizes were awarded, and good cheer abounded.
Here are a few pictures of the event courtesy of John Hayes.
