Bullsheet - April 2003

Vol. 03 No. 04

President's Message

OK, who ordered the extra snow, ice, and cold?

I was just dusting off my models and cycling my batteries when the weather turned the clocks back to January! Well at least it gives us all a few days to check our airplanes before the season starts. All of the experts in the club know this, so this next part is targeted at the newer members of the club.

Each year before the season begins it is a good idea to cycle your transmitter and receiver batteries a few times and to check their capacity. If you see a reduction in capacity on your batteries it is a good idea to replace them before they cause you to lose a plane due to battery failure. Now is also the time to go over every inch of your airplane and make certain that the hinges are tight, the covering is in place and tight, that all of the control surfaces move like they should etc. Basically take the time to get your planes ready for the long flying season ahead. A little time spent now while it's snowing outside will be well spent. If you are uncertain about how to check your plane and it's equipment, seek out a more experienced member of the club to assist you.

Show & Tell night is coming up April 8th. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has been building over the winter. Let's bring in all of those projects on Tuesday.

New SNHRCC Forums
For months I've been working behind the scenes to improve the club's potential for intraclub communication, taking notes from members about what they would like to see, studying other websites, how they do it and listening to some very interesting input from all kinds of sources. Even while this study-design phase was going on, topics came up such as John Hayes' desire to have a club knowledge pool and I saw the potential for what I was working on to give the club that added little "something". What came out of it was a total rework of the club Forum page.

So take a click at the "New Forum" button in the Navbar and see what I've developed for the club to pool knowledge and communicate on several levels, such as email, instant messenging, forum topics.

On another front, one of our newest members, Christi Brown, has taken the time to put together a similar forum that has slightly different capabilities. He has started an E-Groups type of forum at Yahoo (Yahoo took over Egroups). This group has the ability to send a choice of output. One being individual emails, another a daily digest of posts and third just posting to be read online. This group is called the Southern New Hampshire Radio Flyers. It can be found by clicking on this link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flysnh .

BOTH these formats have potentials for the club and for right now we want to let them both run and see how the members feel about each one.

Be sure to stop by and leave us some reaction in the "Wagner Field Lounge". After all this whole setup is for club participation.

Be sure to register to get full access ability on the SNHRCC Club Forum.

March Meeting Minutes!

SNHRCC MEETING March 11, 2002
Litchfield Middle School, Litchfield, NH

Officers in attendance: Roland Harmon, Kip Bean and John Hayes, John Marien was unavailable.

Secretary and Treasurer's reports were read and accepted.

Old Business:

Darrell Wagner asked how many members had reupped for the year, Kip Bean responded by indicating 85 members so far, and we generally work-up to about 120 around mid-year.

John Marien indicated via e-mail that he had Construction Derby information. Roland Harmon asked how many were interested in participating. A motion was made and seconded to have the construction derby.

Darrell Wagner reported that the town of Hudson has an ordinance that states, the noise limit at the property line should not exceed 55 decibels. After 6:00 p.m. the limit drops to 50 decibels at a 4 ft. height. We need to pay attention to the noise our airplanes make. The point is not to be a nuisance to the neighbors. Clarence White brought a sliding scale for noise levels from the 495th club; the numbers seemed quite aggressive.

Harry Peters asked about spending some money for gravel and loam to improve the field. Harry indicated that this was approved last year but not spent. Harry was given the go-ahead to spend the money approved last year without question since it was already approved. Harry said he would also grade the road.

Rich Kelley mentioned the Fun-Fly and touched on what the events would be. Rich corrected his earlier comments about the contest being for the elite flyers, and said that anyone who is qualified can fly in the event and have fun.

Next month will be the annual Show & Tell. Hopefully everybody will bring in their winter project and talk about all the fun had building them.
