Bullsheet - June 2003

Volume 03 No. 06 - June 2003

President's Corner

Well folks, it looks like we're finally getting sound flying weather - if you're a flying-fish that is. Look on the bright side! This gives our field a chance to seed and for the new seed to establish itself. Hat's off to the field maintenance crew. Now, can you guys call for some sun, gentle winds down the runway and some killer thermals!

Thermals? Yes thermals for the Glider contest coming up on June 22nd. Looks like we're going to have a bunch of local glider pilots as well as several competitors from the Charles River club. If you've never seen an Open-Class sailplane fly, you'll be in for quite a treat. So come on out and fly, or watch, you will not be disappointed! (editor's note: The Summer Soar on June 22 has been postponed till further notice.)

The award ceremony last month went well, we've had a lot a positive feedback on the clocks and awards. Kudos to John Hayes and Kip Bean (Member of the Year) for the effort they put into coming up with the new awards.

A couple of people have mentioned to me that they miss the door prizes and raffle items we used to do at the club meetings. The officers discussed the issue and decided that we were going to re-instate the raffle prizes at meetings again. This time, however, there will be a twist. We decided to raffle off some really nice prizes, but not every month. The way it will work is that at the June meeting we will have the raffle prize available for your viewing pleasure. You can buy tickets at the June meeting. The raffle will be held at the July meeting and yes you can buy more tickets at the July meeting. So the raffle is open for ticket sales for two months, then the winning raffle ticket will be selected. We are even working on a grand raffle starting in September which will run for 4 months where the prize will be something like a high-end Radio, but I'm not telling, yet. You do not have to be present to win (so make certain your name gets onto the back of your raffle tickets - otherwise we will not know who wins the prize).

May Meeting Minutes

SNHRCC MEETING May 13th, 2003
Litchfield Middle School
Litchfield, NH

Officers in attendance: John Marien, Roland Harmon, Kip Bean and John Hayes

Secretary and Treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.

Old Business:

Forum: There was discussion regarding the Southern New Hampshire Radio Control Club forum and making an e-mail names list available for the membership. John Marien encouraged the membership to use the forum.

Field: John thanked the work party, and Harry described the work done. Harry, Ray and Darrell worked on Friday, and accomplished most of the work including overseeing rolling of the pits, and the grading of the parking lot. The shed was turned on Saturday and a ramp built, grass is growing.

Harry mentioned the mower needing repair, the estimate is $245. Harry mentioned how well Ken Ux took care of the field in the past years. Harry requested somebody take on the coordination of the summer's mowing schedule. Ray mentioned he and Harry mowed the field on the 10th and that the grass is looking real good and to wait until the grass is in to officially open the field for the season.

Construction Derby: John Marien is asking for someone to take on the task of planning and CD’ing the event.

Club members expressed concern over finding the outer gates wide open upon their arrival. There was discussion as to whether to lock both gates at all times.

Harry mentioned that the inner gate left open, when someone is present, should be left as is. Ray brought up the fact that in the past was decided that the outer gate would always be locked even if town employees were present.

John Hayes made announcement that he was putting together an e-mail list of people interested in flying sailplanes and he would send e-mail's on Thursdays as a reminder for flying sailplanes on Sunday mornings.

The meeting was adjourned.
