President's Corner |
|
As usual, your President pro tem, probably has more to say than you want to hear, but hey guys, you wanted me to speak up for you. However, I'm sure that a lot of you didn't want to hear my harping on some issues, pointing out rules infractions and generally being outspoken. I reiterate, you wanted me to fill the president's slot for the time being, so here I go again. On second thought, let me get to the good stuff first. October 19th, Glider Fun Fly: This glider fun fly isn't just for the glider pilots. It's a fun day for everyone in the club, pilots and observers. There will be free food and drinks available for all who come. This means everyone at the field that day, participants and spectators, guests and guest clubs. Don't fly a glider? So what! Ever seen a glider fun-fly? No? Come on out to the field! Seen them all? So what! It will still be a fun day. We would also like to see you guys with the electrics out there. Although this day is reserved for the quiet class, we'd like to see even the non-flyers out there. We can use your support and will welcome the only noise allowed, laughter. For anyone interested in tickling the sticks, I will be available to let you try my electric. For the flying participants, we will have winches for sending planes aloft. Remember the date, Sunday, October 19th. The good weather won't be with us for much longer so come on out to the field to see this event. For the rest of you, take advantage of the few times left and after this event come on out to fly whatever you have. Hope to see more of you on weekends and for those of us who have a little more time, see you on week days, early evenings, and whenever else we can sneak away. Now, about that Bullsheet! I recently received a letter in the mail with a check for dues which I forwarded to Kip. The letter bothered me for some time because we have a member whom we have ignored. The letter and dues were sent to me because the gentleman, who has been a member for many years, didn't know who the officers were or where to send the check. You see, he is one of several who have no computer, have no access to one, wouldn't know how to use one anyway, and really have no desire to start learning about computers. We need to assure these members that they are still part of the team and the way to do this is to see that, despite their lack of computers and computer skills, we value their presence and appreciate their years of membership. So, gentlemen, how about someone out there volunteering to send print outs of the Bullsheet to those members who cannot access our web page? We can start the ball rolling here by sending a one-time mail out to the membership requesting feed back on those who need a Bullsheet sent to them via US Postal Service. The number isn't that great that it would create a hardship for one of you loyal members who are out there champing on the bit to do his or her part. We could include a schedule of meetings and the roster of the officers in this mailing. Everyone is entitled to receive club news and it looks like we have been neglecting some of our members. Let's do something about this as soon as possible. Speaking of roster of officers. The next meeting will be for nomination of officers. The meeting will be held, November 13th which is a Thursday. The school will be closed on the 4th which is our regular Tuesday meeting. Make a note to attend on Thursday. The prestigious officer posts need to be filled with dedicated and active members and I know you are out there so get your buddies to nominate you. No heavy duty campaigning needs to be done, no posters, no personalized pencils and pens, no coffees need to be given, you don't even need to have a campaign manager. As far as a platform on which to run, why even Arnold didn't have one and he got elected. So you see, it is easy to get to be an officer. Bring in a list of names of those whom you wish to nominate, whether it is your buddy or someone you want to get even with for some (imagined or otherwise) slight. Hey, you can put your hand up and volunteer too. We have a volunteer to get our field rules prominently displayed. Ray Breton has offered to have signs made outlining the rules of the field and posted at the site for all to see. Hopefully this will eliminate the gee, I didn’t know we weren’t supposed to do that lament that goes up from time to time when there has been an infraction. Our meetings need to be more guest friendly so in order to achieve this our guests will give the presentation immediately after the opening of the meeting. In order to take full advantage of the events planned for you, please remember that the meetings start at 7:30 PM. The regular business meeting will be conducted following the presentation. Outside guests don't need to be subjected to our sometimes lengthy club discussions and (once in awhile) heated debates so by putting them upfront of the meeting they are free to leave if they so choose. This, however, does not apply to the general membership and guards with broken and sharp propellers will be stationed at the door to herd everyone back to their seats. While on the subject of guest speakers, anyone have ideas on what they would like to have presented at the meetings? We have a lot of talent within the club and could use your sharing with us. Also, if you know of someone outside the club or from another club that you would like to see at our meetings, pass the information on to one of your club officers so a time and date can be set up. As usual we will have coffee and donuts at our indoor meetings and if that isn't incentive enough, maybe we can get Maurice to hand paint tiny airplanes (in flavored frostings of course) on plain donuts. Who could ask for anything more? -- Darrell Wagner |
| September Meeting Minutes |
|
SNHRCC MEETING Sep 8th, 2003 Officers in attendance: Darrell Wagner, Roland Harmon, and Kip Bean. John Hayes was away. Secretary and Treasurer's reports were read and accepted. Old Business: Darrell Wagner reported that he had spoken with Kevin Burns, Hudson religion with regard to the fence, which had been cut by someone. Darrell told Kevin that had been professionally repaired and Kevin appeared to be pleased that we have taken appropriate care of the situation. Darrell reiterated that there was no excuse for cutting the fence and anyone caught doing it should be expelled from the club. Rich Kelley reported that he was at the field on Sunday in September 7th and that the field had been recently mowed and was in excellent shape. New Business: The subject of having a Field Marshal was raised, the officers will prepare Field Marshal job description for the next meeting, in order to discuss particulars, rather than a vague and undefined position. Subject of signage in respect to Field Rules was brought up. Ray Breton will prepare a proposal for discussion at the next officers meeting. Rich Kelley, Clarence White, Ralph Dionne and Dave Poirier will help out at the Glider Fun-Fly scheduled for October 19th. Dave Redman volunteered to be the cook; it was stated that the food would be complementary. Darrell stated that in order to make it easier for everyone, the gate would be left open for the first couple of hours and then we would revert to using walkie-talkies. A question was raised about who should be the CD at the next Weight Lift Challenge. Due to the small number of members present, discussion on this matter was postponed till the next meeting in hopes of a more comprehensive discussion. Flight Instruction Program there was much discussion of what we "have" and "don't have" currently, what other clubs are doing and how it's affecting new members. Dave Redman said he would organize a program, which could probably be introduced for next spring. Maurice Theriault volunteered to bring coffee and doughnuts to the next meeting. A question was raised about why we don't include speakers and demonstrations during the meeting rather than having them as an informal event following the conclusion of the meeting. It was pointed out that the present procedure results in a lot of people leaving or carrying on disruptive private conversations indicating disrespect and lack of appreciation for the speaker or demonstrator. Darrell said that we will incorporate demos and/or speakers into the front of the main meeting. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:00 PM. The minutes have been respectfully submitted by Roland Harmon for John Hayes. --John Hayes |
| Guest Speaker at Next Meeting |
| The guest speaker for the October 14th meeting will be former aerobatic champion, Dennis Sawyer. Dennis is a full scale aerobatic pilot and radio control enthusiast who is a member of a local club. He has flown R/C planes since he was a boy and in his youth went into aerobatic flying, but he never abandoned his love of radio control planes and will share his experiences with both types of aircraft. He is an exceptional speaker and one that you won't want to miss. |

| Pictures from the Sunday Morning Glider Guiders |
| John Hayes submitted a handful of photographs of an interesting glider project that came out to the field during a recent Sunday Morning Glider get-togethers. The glider pictures below are of a 4 meter electric powered glider that uses the dolly you see under the plane as a launching mechanism to get it into the air. As you can see from the final picture, it leads to VERY interesting take-off sequences as the dolly is left on planet earth.
The pilot of this 4-meter monster is Art Faria. It carries 30 cells and spins an Aveox brushless motor with a gearbox. |
