Vol. 04 No. 04 — April 2004

President's Message

The weather and the temperatures keep improving as we get closer to the summer flying days, and things look pretty good. The field is continually drying since we have only had that one storm to bring us any appreciable rain, and I have been told that the port-a-potty has been delivered to the hilltop for the coming season. I am sure there have been some members who are already boring some holes in the sky.

All of the members who were able to make it to the last meeting were treated to an exceptional presentation of Barbara Miles from the NH Aviation Historical Society as Barbara presented the life of Ruth Law. Shortly after the SNHRCC meeting, Barbara sent me a very nice letter of thanks, which Kip is including somewhere else in this month's newsletter. My personal thanks goes out to Barbara for bringing the club a unique view of the early exploits of one of many women in the rapidly developing history of aviation in the United States. If you heard her presentation you truly saw an example of the wealth of information and experience this woman has. I did guarantee you that you’ll walk away talking about this great lady.

Looking forward I did want to remind everyone that April is "Show & Tell" month. Our meeting for this month will be devoted to giving everyone who brings a model a chance to show it off and then tell the club members a little bit about your exploits in building it. This will be followed by balloted voting for the "Best Of" in several categories and "Modeler Of The Year 2003."

The March meeting was called to order and the floor was turned over to our guest for the evening, Barbara Miles, curator of the NH Aviation Historical Society. She presented herself in character of Ruth Law, one of the early women pioneers of flight and told a story of adventures and mishaps of this incredible early aviator. This was truly a great and interesting guest speaker.

Following the speaker the meeting was brought back to order to be adjourned.

Hobby Highlights:

Chuck Keller showed the group a Piper Cub, which he CNC machined with a computer controlled Dremel used as a router. Very nice job with lots of possibilities.
