Vol. 04 No. 07 — July 2004

President's Message

The next meeting, July 13th will be held at the field with your vice president, Roland Harmon, presiding. Roland will do a great job. However, I have warned him not to be too good since there’s been a hint of replacing me if he does. Hopefully, I will see you again at the August meeting.

The field is in great condition and the flying is outstanding, so come on out and enjoy these great days. We have never scheduled a rain date for meetings at the field because we hope that a lot of you would show up for a bull session and keep us updated on your projects with a little brag thrown in.

Speaking of which, Wednesday nights are still on for jam sessions and have proved to be popular with a great many of you. It’s a good night out and the flying has been very good.

If you can’t get to Las Vegas and yearn for blackjack, come on out to the field for our version of blackjack! We play for points and you can participate for 9 weeks. The rules are on the bulletin board at the field. Everyone seems to having a good time in this particular event.

Another event coming up soon is the Weight Lifting Challenge, times, dates and rules are posted on the web site, check out this popular site.

This will be my last president’s message for a while and I couldn’t leave it without a few personal comments and observations. First, we need to warn Kip about the dangers of wrestling with an 1100 pound bike. You can’t win, Kip, and your broken wrist should certainly be a painful reminder for some time. We did neglect to ask which wrist was broken when the bike fell over. No, it wasn’t speeding, racing, or showing off. We understand Kip and the bike were at a stop light, when lo and behold the bike fell over. Must have been a gust of wind, right, Kip? In any case, a speedy recovery and you can tell the story any way you want, but this is my version and I’m sticking to it.

Next we need to warn one of our members about stretching the truth and accusing, me, of all people of cheating! Ray and I have had games going on for some time and it’s just amazing how he justifies his losses by questioning how I win. Somewhere, we should have written down the rules of the games instead of his making them up as we went along. Nevertheless, making up his rules as he goes along and changing them to suit himself is taking unfair advantage of an ailing person and, if we were keeping points, I think he should lose some. He can tell the story any way that he wants, but again, this is my version and I’m sticking to it.

All in honest fun and a little tweaking on the side, I have had a lot of fun and have made friends of whom I think highly. I appreciate the many cards and phone calls I’ve received over the past few months and will try to keep you updated during my recovery. At least, my wife will. I guess talking might be a problem for a while, which might make some happy but I can still write so look out! I will be going to Boston for surgery on Monday and will be there for a few days, not longer, I hope, and will be back to the field as soon as my family will let me. I want to thank to my friends for the rides to the field and for trusting me with their planes when I didn’t really trust myself. Those buddy boxes are great, aren’t they? So are my buddies.

See you soon.

June 2004 Meeting Minutes!

SNHRCC MEETING June 8th, 2004

Location: Wagner Field, Hudson, NH

Officers present: Darrell Wagner, Roland Harmon, Kip Bean and John Hayes.

The Secretary's Report was read and accepted. The Treasuruer was LATE.

Old Business:

John Hayes reported on the club mower, stating that it was all set to go, but please don't run it out of gas.

Harry Peters suggested leaving the deck high and mowing the parking lot extension.

Clarence White brought up the lack of cash for the mowing gas; it was previously decided to leave an envelope of money in the shed to cover fuel. Whoever filled the gas cans would provide a receipt for the fuel and Kip could keep the books balanced.

John Marien mentioned that he has been kitting Quickie 500 planes for pylon racing. He said that Pete Reed from Peterborough could come to the August meeting and do some really "quick" pylon racing demonstrations. The membership showed interest in this demo opportunity.

Dave Redman asked which field would be used for the Weightlift Challenge. The west field is the chosen runway for this event.

John Marien said he would make an effort to work with Kip to resolve the plaque issue for the May meeting awards.

John Hayes brought up the upcoming construction Derby event, looking for a show of hands. This is a really fun event, all that can, should participate for one of the hobbies best times.

The meeting was adjourned.

Following the meeting, John Hayes briefly discussed the new generation of receivers that are available. These receivers can literally fingerprint your transmitter and reject other signals on the same frequency. With the growing number of people who are able to just go purchase a park flyer and go where they please to fly, the opportunity for unknown frequency conflicts could be on the rise.

2004 Construction Derby Update
I hope you’re getting ready, because the Construction Derby is coming! It’s time to start forming your teams. Each team can have up to three members, but I suppose you could try with two. Not all of the team members have to fly the plane, but it could be worth some points if they do fly (yeah, that’s a hint). I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but I can tell you that building time bonuses will be awarded (and overtime penalties too!), and flight maneuvers will be judged and given points. I imagine the other teams will help score the maneuvers, and give “encouragement” as they see fit. Of course, the “Kit” contents are confidential. Teams will pay a nominal fee for the “Kit” and a BBQ lunch will be provided.

Sound good? Then plan on being there on August 15th. I’ll give more information when the date gets closer. Take a look at the schedule and see what you need to bring…
