President's Message |

Point to Ponder - If God meant man to fly, he'd given him more money. The results of the November election for 2005 officers are as follow:
Has everyone recovered from turkey day, I hope so? Speaking of frozen turkeys, the 3rd Frozen Turkey Fun Fly, CD'ed by Kip Bean turned out to be just that, six frozen Turkey's on a snow covered hill. Kip looked very impressive as he stomped out the Blackjack board with his feet in the 10 mph gusting to 15 or 20 wind. Everyone went home happy as we had three turkeys and three pilots who wound up having a Yankee Turkey Swap at the end. Don't forget the Yankee Swap to be held at the December14th meeting. I hope we see you all there. John Hayes has purchased a new mower for 2005 flying season, more details will follow. Hope to see some volunteers sign up for a turn at mowing the field. I would like to see a small enclosed bulletin board erected at the field add another means of listing events. The old mower will be posted along with its known faults, and any member interested is free to bid on it. It will also be posted at the auction. -- David Redman |

SNHRCC MEETING October 12th, 2004 Location: Litchfield Middle School, Litchfield, NH Officers in attendance: Darrell Wagner, Roland Harmon, Kip Bean, and John Hayes Secretaries and treasurers reports were read and accepted. Kip Bean reported to have arranged to go retrieve Norm Ellis’s plane only to find it on the ground after the recent high winds. The plane was badly damaged when it landed on a 3’ high 3” diameter stump. The balsa was very watered soaked from having been exposed to the storm. David Beach reported on the October Combat Event, he indicated there was good attendance from many clubs. John Hayes brought up the idea of purchasing a new Club tractor for mowing the flying site, noting the problems of the existing Yard Machines tractor. Following discussion on the proposal, Dan Bogdan made a motion to allow up to $2500.00 be spent to purchase a new mower. The motion was seconded. Rich Kelley suggested we try to fund the purchase. Dan Bogdan suggested we assess each member $10.00 to help with the purchase. A question of where we were last year financially vs. this year was asked. A vote was taken with majority in favor and 2 in opposition. Passed Rich Kelley made a motion that a one-time assessment of $10.00 is made to help cover the purchase. Motion was seconded. Discussion followed, Peter Skentzos made a suggestion that we ask for donations to a tractor fund rather than an assessment. David Beach said that based on the existing funds, he didn’t see the need for an assessment. A question of raising the dues was raised, Dave and Jerry both said that raising the dues doesn’t necessarily raise the revenue. A vote was taken with 4 in favor and the majority in opposition. Passed David Beach recommended we set up a budget with a projected tractor replacement in future years. Roland Harmon made a motion to raise the yearly dues from $35.00 to $40.00. The motion was seconded. Discussion began with Roland saying that the additional $5.00 won’t likely cause anyone to not re-up. Peter Skentzos suggested that rather than increase the dues that the club could ask for donations. Ray Breton said that the $35.00 we have paid is really a bargain considering the flying site we have. Kip Bean brought up that the membership; each year begins at around 85 members and by the end of the year caps out around 100. Darrell Wagner mentioned that the increase in dues could be negated by a loss of members. The vote was called and passed with 10 in favor and 6 against. Passed The dues are now $40.00 per year. Nominations were reopened prior to taking the vote for new officers. Nominations are:
Hearing no other nominations, a vote was taken for the named individuals to fill the positions for 2005. The new officers will assume their responsibilities beginning with the December meeting.

| Frozen Turkey Fun-Fly - November 14, 2004 - 10am | ||||||||||||
| The Southern New Hampshire R/C Club held its third Frozen Turkey Fun-Fly at Wagner Field in Hudson, N.H. on November 14st, 2004. The event was CD’d by Kip Bean.
The morning of the event we awoke to an 18 degree temp with a hefty wind on top of Wagner Field. Brrrrrrrrrrr. Totally surprised by the amount of snow on the field, I figured the only real choice to get started was to try to scuff the Blackjack lines in the snow rather than to put any caustic lime on the snow-covered field. Not bad... It actually looked better than the usual limed lines in the grass. We only had a few hardy souls (pilots) show up. But the conditions were so rasty one would be pilot simply went home right away and another decided the better part of valor was not to attempt to fly in the cold and windy conditions. And since this was to be a fun, very casual contest we took our time getting started. It seemed no one really minded since it took a fair amount of time coaxing the reluctant models to even try to start. But eventually all the models responded to some TLC and off we went. The action started with all three pilots getting in an official score with David Beach in a firm lead of 21. David Redman had a score of 6 but on his landing approach his ski-mounted Kadet took it on the chin. Result... busted prop and a severely modified front ski. Dave decided to retire with his first round score. You can see from the pictures that the ski had seen better days. John Marien did what I would call hands down the "Save of the Year". John had been having a time of it trimming his "Killer Stick" for several minutes and as he approached the field on final the model went into a spiral/spin that literally took the plane down "below" a line of sight off the south end of the runway... Oh No! But to all of our amazement after disappearing out of sight the model surprisingly reappeared headed kind of toward the swamp but FLYING and very healthy and "gaining" altitude. WAY TO GO JOHN!! I coaxed John Marien into attempting just one more official round that could possibly pull him into second place. John could only be prodded to attempt that one more round it needed to take home second place. He then said he wanted to go home with a whole airplane. I'd say he earned that turkey. Once the rounds were completed, it was pretty clear how the turkey was going to be sliced. David Beach won the 20 pounder, John Marien won the 17 pounder and David Redman won the 15 pounder. But we weren't done yet! The winners proceeded to start their own "Turkey Swap" and it was finally decided that the two Dave's would exchange their turkeys and go home happy. Fair enough I'd say. Final standings:
