SNHRCC Bullsheet - February 1998

President's Message

Everything under the sun was auctioned off at our January meeting!
There were airplanes in kits, airplanes that were partially built, others that were fully built and some completely assembled with radios! There were small tools, scroll saws, table saws, drills and clamps. There were engines of every size and condition. It was one busy evening!
It was so busy that a couple of items I thought I would bid on were gone before I had a chance! It might have been busy, but it was a great event. However, the auction wouldn't have been possible without the help of our members.
Darrell Wagner graciously accepted the role as auctioneer, again, this year. He dazzled the audience, sweet talking the bidders out of their money while Shawn McCarthy and Rich Kelley picked the selections to be next in line. Dave Muse, Maurice Theriault and myself handed the product and money exchange, while John Hayes kept the coffee, donuts and calendars moving. And finally Dan Bogdan, all the way in the back of the room, was selling raffle tickets. What a team! And a special thanks to everyone that lent a hand setting up the chairs and cleaning up at the end of the night.
The auction was a plus, monetarily, for the club. In addition to the proceeds from the auction the club did very well on the raffle for the two LA 46 engines and the sale of coffee and donuts. The attendance was excellent. During one count we had over 80 people in the cafeteria.
Switching gears to other interests, I had an opportunity to participate in my first winter event in many years. The Flying Eagles hosted an AMA sanctioned "Frozen Finger" Fun-Fly on January 11th. The sun was bright during most of the event and the temperature was reasonable for January. This contest attracted contestants and spectators from as far south as Cape Cod and as far north as Laconia.
Floats or skis were required by the rules for the contest. The contest included events such as the puddle jump, climb and glide, dice roll and flying rolls, and the "equalizer", otherwise known as the novice pattern event. It was a good time.
The WRAM show in White Plains, NY is coming up again this year at the end of February. It is a good way to see what is new in our hobby, to check out the fine work of our fellow modelers, and an opportunity to meet with old friends. My experience has been that Friday is the best day for visiting the trade show. The crowds are thick on Saturday making it difficult to see everything. Sunday gets a little better. If you haven't attended a WRAM show, you could consider a trip this year.

Spotlight of Appreciation

Last April a new form of communication for the SNHRCC was born. One of our club members began a task of curiosity and learning. He wanted to create a Web-page. He thought about several different ideas and settled on the SNHRCC as being a good worthwhile subject. That member was Jack McDermott, the Web Site went on-line last April and to date has over 1700 hits.
The Web site is linked to Tower Hobbies directory of R/C clubs and to the AMA Directory. The site also has links to various model manufacturers and other useful resources. If you haven't seen the site point your browser to "www.litchfieldnh.com/snhrc" and see what is offered, Jack has done quite a job. Jack has gone on to take courses in HTML (the language of the web) and is now taking additional courses in graphic design. In recognition of Jacks time and efforts in putting us on the Web, the officers have presented him with a certificate of appreciation and a pack of three Zip disks for his computer.

Thanks Jack, heck of a job!

LAST BULLSHEET?
Please check the mailing label on this issue of the BULLSHEET. If your name has a yellow stripe through it, then as of press time you haven't renewed your membership. This means that this will be the last issue you will receive unless you renew. After the February meeting, a $5.00 late fee will be assessed when you renew your membership. There are still 44 members who have not renewed for the '98 flying season.
NOTE: If you sent in your renewal application but didn't get your card, it's probably because you failed to include a copy of your 1998 AMA card. As soon as I receive it, your card will be issued.
